Introduction to Modern Calligraphy

In this two hour lesson, you will learn the basic techniques of modern calligraphy using a pen and nib dipped into ink.  Techniques such as basic strokes and shapes, letter-forms and words, along with basic tools for composition and overall design and structure will make sense after completing the class. Along with basic lessons, you will receive an introduction to intermediate techniques, as well as coaching and direction for the next steps you will need to advance your lettering in order to develop your own style of calligraphy.

After this lesson, you will be able to apply the following:

- demonstrate basic knowledge of pointed pen calligraphy
- when and how to apply pressure and release on the pen
- full grasp of how to structure the alphabet

You will be provided a kit that includes the instructional worksheets, a pen holder, a nib, ink, and paper for practice.

Intermediate Modern Calligraphy

Have you been practicing your calligraphy but are looking for more direction and coaching to take it to the next level?  Look no further because this course is for YOU! The intermediate course is a two hour lesson that will make you dive into the specifics required by all professional calligraphers. This includes connecting letters, composition, style development and mixing gouache for custom colors.  Any beginner calligraphy class is required before taking this intermediate course.

After this lesson, you will be able to apply the following:

- how to mix gouache to create a custom color
- demonstrate advanced knowledge of letter connections
- understanding of how to develop styles and recognition of your own unique style

You will be provided a kit that includes the instructional worksheets, a pen holder, a nib, ink, and paper for practice.

Introduction to Watercolor

This two hour lesson is the perfect fit for a beginner watercolor artist or for those who want to find a different approach to their art! This lesson begins by talking frankly about materials, what to look for and which supplies and brushes are recommended, along with the rationale behind it! After that you will practice techniques for brush strokes, creating basic shapes, color theory and blending. After learning these elements, you will incorporate how to structure your basic shapes into floral subjects!

After this lesson, you will be able to apply the following:

- show an understanding of color theory and how to mix colors
- how to incorporate techniques to achieve blending and basic shapes
- full grasp of how to create a floral watercolor painting

You will receive a kit at your lesson that includes a palette with a tray of 7 paint colors, two brushes, paper and a pencil.

Introduction to Illustration

If you are looking to find a different approach to your skill, or are a beginning artist, this two hour lesson will be the perfect fit!  We will begin the lesson by talking about inspiration and how to break down what you are looking at so you can draw it. You will learn tips and techniques to turn basic shapes into detailed leaves and petals, and adding dimension through line weight and shading. After learning the material you will combine the elements and turn your basic shapes into intricate botanical illustrations!

After this lesson, you will be able to apply the following:

- show an understanding of how to interpret an object or image into an illustration
- how to incorporate techniques to achieve realistic illustrations
- full grasp of how to create a botanical illustration

You will receive a kit at your lesson that includes pen, pencil, eraser, and a sketch book to practice in.
